Obituary

Subodh Das of Voorhees, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 5th, 2020. In his eighty-two years, he had a successful career, raised a family, and inspired many with his hard work and dedication. Subodh graduated at the top of his class with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Dhaka University. He came to the United States on a scholarship and obtained his Master’s and PhD from Texas A&M University. He and his family have been living in Voorhees since 1975. He was a civil engineer, professor, businessman, builder and developer. As a civil engineer, he worked on many projects in the local area such as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Cooper Medical Center in Camden, and the Phillies Stadium. In addition to his profession, Subodh helped many of his friends and family immigrate to the United States for a better life after the Bangladesh War of Independence. He was an incredibly hard-working man who loved to keep busy. In his spare time, Subodh enjoyed fishing, trips to Atlantic City with his family, and gardening. During his last stage of life, he suffered a traumatic brain injury but still managed to stay active for years. Subodh is survived by his wife, Bakul, daughters, Sukla and Rita, sons-in-law, Vimal and Scott, and grandchildren, Ryan, Maya, and Tyler.

Our most favorite "meshomasai" is no more. From the childhood, he was the greatest inspiration in my life. His talent, perseverance, brilliance and wit were awe inspiring. Above all, it was his sensitivity and sense of responsibility to all his near and dear ones that defined his persona. There are so many happy memories to cherish rest of our lives. May his soul be in eternal peace and May God help his family, especially our two cousins to get over the grief of this immense loss. Our New Jersey will never be the same again without Meshomasai. We will miss you a lot!

I met Mesomosai (uncle) when I was a little girl, but when his soul left his earthly body I am in my early 50s I felt like “I blinked, and it was all over.” He inspired us all to: “do our best, follow our destiny and make something amazing out of our life. Oh, and never forgot to smile.”
