Obituary

Nancy Greenwald, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 9, 2020, after complications from congestive heart failure. It is believed she was so excited by what she saw earlier on QVC that her heart just couldn’t take it.

Nancy leaves behind an impossible amount of stuff that her sons have no idea what to do with. So if anyone would like a Ronco Food Dehydrator, an Emeril Lagasse air fryer, or a chandelier she kept trying to pawn off on us, please wait the appropriate amount of time (like, tonight), and then contact us.

Nancy spent much of her childhood in Tarpon Springs, FL, where she catalogued stories of alligators and severe thunderstorms to scare her future children with. She later moved to Pennsauken NJ, where she met and eventually married Carl Greenwald, who could sell a refrigerator in Antarctica (and may actually have). Together they raised two sons; Ken, who did not write this obituary, and Justin, a superbly-talented, charming, and exceedingly humble man. The family would remain very close, sharing many dinners together where her sons would reassure Mom that no, of course their friends’ houses were smaller and not as nice as theirs.

Nancy’s love and kindness made her a natural to run a small daycare service in Marlton for many years, and through this she developed lifelong friendships with client families. That daycare often used the childhood toys of Ken and Justin to entertain the children, and after years of therapy, they’re sort of OK with that.

Nancy had some medical difficulties in her later years, and during one hospital stay, was given the nickname “fancy Nancy” by nursing staff. She saw this as a compliment, but we’re not sure that’s how they meant it. This nickname was reaffirmed recently when she was asked what her then-hospital lacked in contrast with a previous hospital, to which she replied simply, “chandeliers.”

Carl preceded Nancy in death in 2017, and try as they might, her sons were not able to spoil her nearly to the level that he did. She was also preceded by her brother Herbie, and pretty much every breed of dog you can think of, some of which were mistaken for horses.

She will be sorely missed and is survived by her sons Ken (Cindy Lucera) and Justin (fiancé Sharon Wells), grandchildren Kirk and Keith (Cindy), and Josh and Jake (Justin); her brother Scott Wegmann (Loraine), children: Jennifer and Julie; her sister Leada Gushue (Mike), children: Leanna and Joe; and brother in law David Greenwald (Amy).

In lieu of flowers, please give generously to Donate Life America (donatelife.net). Due to the coronavirus outbreak, no services are planned at this time, but a small family gathering is planned in due course.
