Obituary

Elvira Carney (née Carenza) died peacefully on April 22nd. Vera was 94. Beloved wife of the late James Carney. Loving mother of James Jr. , and Ann Mayo (late husband Rick Mayo). Dear Grandma of Jason,Jessica, Meghan, Rebecca( Nicole) , Matthew ( Erica) , and Kelly, and great grandmother of Alex, Leah, Eliana, Lucas, Kevin , Josephine, and Oliver. Dear sister of her predeceased siblings, Anna Powers, Joseph Carenza, Celestine Carenza, Dominic Carenza, Frances Taub, and Ida Villari. She was adored by her nieces and nephews.

Vera was always ready to have fun and had a contagious laugh. She loved to sew, do projects around the house, sing, dance, have parties, and her favorite.....being with family.

She was an active sight in Collingswood Manor. They describe her as being very feisty! The staff there took amazing care of her and loved her like family.

She became a nurse and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hoboken, Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, and then for a private medical doctor. She was very dedicated to her nursing career and always loved her jobs. After retirement, she moved to Florida and became involved in the Woman’s Club, and various golf leagues.

Unfortunately due to Covid 19, a celebration for Vera will be arranged in the future. Our family looks forward to sharing stories and celebrating her well lived life.

If desired, donations can be made to Olivia’s House, a Grief and Loss Center for Children. It offers free counseling to children. Its funding is solely based on community donations, or United Methodist Home in Collingswood where she has resided for the past 11 years and was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
