On October 23, 2019, our dear mother and friend Dianne Clare Robinson, completed her work on this earth and was called to rest.

Dianne was born to the late Bertha Wakeman (Clark) and Edgar Carleton Robinson of Cinnaminson, NJ on October 14, 1943. Interestingly, Dianne’s original middle name was Clark (her mother’s maiden name), not Clare; however, her parents changed it to Clare shortly after birth. Dianne accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Reverend Dr. Alvin A. Jackson, Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church of Cinnaminson, NJ. She continued to serve St. Paul Baptist Church of Cinnaminson, NJ, under the leadership of Reverend Victor M. Lee, Pastor, as Trustee, Pastors Aid, Choir member and in any capacity in which she could serve God. Dianne was educated in the Cinnaminson Schools, and attended Palmyra High School and Hampton University where she studied English and played basketball on the women’s basketball team. In 1967, Dianne married the late Jon F. Robinson and to this union two children were born, two daughters, Donna Dianne Robinson and Carole Denise Robinson. Her professional career spanned over 40 years of service to non profit organizations like OIC and BCCAP and she would go on to retire after more than 25 years working as a Managing Director in the Federal Department Of Labor.

When we think about Dianne’s personality, we are reminded of the two distinct styles of Opera: opera seria meaning serious, thoughtful, purposeful and larger than life and opera buffa meaning light hearted, easygoing and humorous. Both of these opera styles exemplify Dianne’s personality in some way and how she approached life. Dianne was a real self starter and life long learner. She was a self-taught guitarist, a skill picked up and mastered from the purchase of a second hand guitar and a used music book; a self taught golfer, initially playing with a set of used men's golf clubs she found at a yard sale and a Barnes & Noble instruction guidebook. Later in life, Dianne even took the initiative to learn sign language so that she could communicate better with hearing impaired clients at a client site. Dianne also loved to laugh and share her sense of humor with others. She had a sharp wit, expansive vocabulary and a love of words.

Dianne stayed busy. She was an active and longtime member of several organizations. Dianne was a proud member of the National Federation of Colored Women and the Club Ebonettes local chapter. Dianne was also a dedicated member of Adeste Fidelis Chapter No. 45, OES-PHA where she served as Worthy Matron, 2000—2002. She would continue to serve as Chapter Secretary until her last day here with us. Dianne also dedicated her time to the Youth Felicitares for several years serving as State Director and Advisor. She was a member of Zamora Court No. 135 located in Camden NJ.

Dianne’s musical talents were honed early in life singing in the church choir; in her teens, she joined a quartet called The Lavells and recorded an album. In 1999, Dianne became a member of the Expressions Chorale where she nurtured her love of music, shared her gift of guitar playing, and her melodious soft soprano voice with several other musically talented men and women from the East Riverton area.

Also since 1999, Dianne was an active member of the Green’s Ladies Golf Club in which she served as a Past President, Past Tournament Director and mentored many new women golfers. Her crowning moment was achieved on August 11, 2007 when Dianne hit a “Hole In One” on the 4th hole at the Olde Course at Shenvale Golf Resort in New Market, Virginia. Her shot was 158 yards and par 3.

Dianne’s life was full of music, some of which she wrote, paintings in which old old oil paintings can be found around the house. and books in which she read for hours and hours, completing several in a month. Dianne was such a generous, giving person who had a way of making each individual feel like they were special. For example, in the way she would make two versions of bread pudding (with and without raisins), or two sweet potato pies (one pie with yams for Carole and one with sweet potatoes for Donna). She was an amazing woman who always had a prayer, a kind word or a special note of encouragement for others.

Dianne will be deeply missed, but will remain with us forever, for we all had such beautiful moments with her. Dianne leaves us to cherish her memory and to carry on her legacy. She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Dianne of Edgewater Park NJ and Carole Denise of Santa Clara, CA; her brother, Edgar Carleton Robinson, Jr; (Don), nieces, nephews and a host of family

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation 9-11am and to the Funeral Service at 11am on Saturday, Nov. 9, all at Evergreen Baptist Church, 602 W. 3rd St., Palmyra, NJ 08065.
